Visitors to the Hairy Bear Inn can expect an unpretentious and authentic working class neighborhood tavern ambiance, with dim lighting, rustic furnishings, and a surprisingly extensive selection of locally brewed beers and wines.

For travellers on a budget, the Hairy Bear Inn is appealing, with the option to rent either beds or private rooms by the night or week. Additionally, a non-human in our group was not made to feel unwelcome: standing policy at the Hairy Bear is that if one has coin, one will be served.

We will admit that this establishment has seen its better days. Despite this, and despite its diminished circumstance and locale, we still recommend that anyone visiting Vizima should stop by for at least one meal. The locals already know this: most of the patrons are regulars, drawn in by the daily meal specials, which offer an excellent value, with ample portions at an affordable price.

The service was friendly, though the waitress seemed somewhat rushed at times: the Hairy Bear is popular enough that it could probably use additional wait staff during busy hours. We ordered the Chicken Sandwich with Cheese and a bowl of the Mutton Stew. The sandwich was excellent: the chicken was prepared with a light herb seasoning and served on fresh baked rye. The Lamb Stew was rich and meaty, and included tender slices of leeks and parsnips simmered in a thick broth.

While the Hairy Bear does not offer formal entertainment, we have found that the regular patrons are welcoming, and will be happy to invite an out of town visitor to join in on a friendly dice game for large or small stakes. Drinking and fisticuff contests are frequent. Additional options are available for the discreet patron, if you know who to speak to. In short, no matter what your entertainment preferences, you are sure to find it at the Hairy Bear.

Caution: The Hairy Bear is located in a distressed neighborhood. While the area is considered reasonably safe during the daytime, it is strongly recommended that a visitor consider hiring an armed bodyguard if planning to visit the Hairy Bear in the evening or at night.
