Technical

The Witcher is a game made for a high-end computer in the late Millenium First Decade. Anything before 2005 flatly won't play The Witcher well, or at all. Using the latest DirectX 9.0c and the Aurora Engine means that the load-times will be a slight issue, with full-graphics loading in advance, not as you approach the models. This can create sluggish or choppy experiences on low-end machines (read, not-supported hardware such as AMD XP or Pentium III machines with less than 2MB RAM) in areas where the player cannot see the models, but the machine has loaded them regardless (behind doors or gates, on the other side of walls, etc).

Gameplay

The objectivity is pretty simple, however, and the targets generally don't flee from you, forcing you to run all over creation to get them as in some "RPGs". The opponents typically try to surround Geralt, conveniently making for some appropriate group-attack melee. Even the ranged attackers pull out melee weapons and try to have at you, rather rambo-style (not terribly smart, but, when they can't run, they do use a blade or whatever). Really, the only fubars occur when you accidentally hit a suburbian guard and make him think you're a mad-hacking murderer, to which he chases you until he gets too far from his post, and he returns. Solution? wait a day, and he forgets all about you for his next night shift. So, even when the gameplay conflicts, it usually solves itself, thank goodness, for the patient.
